Casually passing the hours looking at the MLS for houses is fun. It's a real good time. Imaginary moving - it's all joy. But really shopping for a house sucks all the joy right out of it.
So - recently I wrote about Hampton Cove. And how great it is.
Well
We still think it's really great, and we still want to live there and are excited about it, but - we have had a few big reality checks. Flood plane issues and water issues abound. So - it's important to buy wisely. When you're buying wisely - with your house upon the rock (and in a good neighborhood for riding bikes with kids and all) - you may not get the huge yard or 3 car car garage you had really hoped for. Especially if you're not selling the home you already own. It's interesting - we ran into several relocators on our trip. They all expressed a similar let down. I realize how spoiled it might sound. But it is nice to think that if you're moving away from a lifetime of dear friends, your family and a life that you pretty much love, that you would get a big yard for the gardener and a big garage for the woodworker. You know?
Truly - we're very blessed - and I'm sure that we will have a LOVELY house and life in Huntsville, and more importantly we always have the joy of the LORD and can be content anywhere, but I just wanted to clarify that this process is not all fun and glory; waterfalls and double ovens. Somtimes it's flood records and mold spores; sump pumps and de-humidifying fans.
sigh................
And would you buy a house you had only spent 10 mintues in? We think we might. We're not sure. We don't want to miss out on the house. We haven't seen another one that we like as much that we can afford in a location that we think is as good. We can't imagine committing to it without seeing it again. There is no human way to make it to Huntsville for another 3 weeks.
What would you do?
