Ok - so I've decided to start tracking my calorie count pretty closely. This is for several reasons...the most obvious being that evasive last few pounds. In general, I'm curious about exactly how many calories I can get away with. In the past I've been able to eat whatever I wanted (within reason) and, as long as I kept the portion sizes sane (and even if I sometimes didn't) I exercised enough to burn the calories. Now I don't have the time to work out for 90 minutes 5 days/week.These days I eat a fairly healthy base diet - lots of whole grain, little trans fat, many fresh fruits and veggies, lean meats, etc....but I still gotta have my Frapuccino....and sometimes some chocolate...or a cookie...or homemade lemon ice PLUS a cookie.
Anyway - I've found a great website: http://www.calorie-count.com/
What I love about this site, besides its obvious usefulness, is the insane amount of detail someone has put into tracking how many calories are burned in a given activity. Click on the site. Go to "activities." Click on "bicycling." The list is as detailed and varied as "20 mph, racing, not drafting."
But the most amusing choices are under "home activities" where you will find "butchering animals" and "making bed" and "reclining with baby" along with "cooking Indian bread on an outside stove." Under "sexual activity" you must judge whether you provided "vigorous effort," "moderate effort," or "light effort" during your most recent escapade. Under home repair you can track your calories burned while "cleaning out gutters," "sanding floors with a power sander," and "caulking - except log cabin." Church ushers can look under "religious activities" to see how many communion crackers they worked off while passing the plate.
Someone either has a dry, wry and wicked sense of humor, or an obsessive commitment to accuracy and detail. I hope you enjoy!
