Here is Emma and her Daddy. The guitar is from Emma's GREAT GRANDPA (my Grandpa Chick). He saw it in an ad, thought it perfect for Emma to play guitars with her Daddy, went to the store and bought it himself, and then went to the post office 3x's in the rain - once with the wrong zip code, once when the post office was closed, and finally to get it all right. And he really did get it right. Emma LOVES this!
The microphone was Scott's idea. It's convenient when shopping for your kid is the same as shopping for yourself. Scott and Emma have jam sessions in the evening. He'll play his electric guitar, and she'll improvise a song. I don't mean to be braggy, but she's getting really good at it. So, Scott thought a microphone would encourage her to develop her singing, rhythm and improvising chops. I love her creativity and all, but I'm not wild about her desire to be a rock star, so I wasn't hard over on the microphone idea.
Scott reminded me that he wanted to be a rock star, and that pretty much every kid in America wants to be a rock star at some point.
I reminded him that he didn't want to be a rock star until he was in middle school. And I asked him what he wanted to be when he was four, and what his 4 year old birthday cake was:
He wanted to be a rocket man and his cake was a rocket.
And what did he grow up to be?
A rocket scientist.
